Lovely German heavy hemp/linen handwoven/handspun grain sack dated 1902 with stenciling on both sides! The color is a light beige with a very subtle pattern. Early Fraktur script stenciling in black with name (Xaver Fideler) and town (Altheim) and year 1902 on one side. The reverse side has his initials X. F. stenciled on the sack, also listing his occupation as farmer and town and year again as well. Both sides have No. 7 on the sack There is only one side seam, so when opened the stenciling of both sides will be shown. The sack has been reinforced on the bottom inside with a band of additional grain sack material about 12” deep someone had obviously added so the sack wouldn’t wear out with heavy use. It worked! The sack is in great condition with only some wear in one bottom corner right at the seam (see photo). Last two photos show the additional grain sack fabric that they hand stitched to the inside of the bag, which is clean without any wear. I laundered the sack for you, and it is clean and ready for your project. The sack measures 25” wide and 60” long, so when opened it will be 50” x 60”.
I will slowly be selling my collection of antique German textiles and other assorted antiques over the next few months due to age. I have been going to eastern Germany to buy antiques and textiles twice a year now since 1996. My drawers and cupboards and closets are full, and I decided it’s time to start parting with some of my things. Please check back often to see what I’ve listed, or if you’re looking for something in particular you can message me to see if I have what you’re looking for. Chances are I do. Thanks for looking!
