Dating to c.1900:
This photo is attributed to around 1900 based on:
Mount style & size – the larger gray board mount (˜8x10.5\") is consistent with turn-of-the-century photo presentations, used widely 1885–1915.
Sepia process – warm-tone albumen and early silver gelatin prints were typical of the 1890–1910 era, before glossy black-and-white papers became standard.
Studio practice – it was common c.1890–1910 for artists to have their drawings photographed to create a permanent record or portfolio entry.
Condition clues – natural toning at the board’s edges and light oxidation match aging seen in ~120-year-old mounts.
Together, these indicators strongly support a circa 1900 dating.
A rare surviving example of canine art documentation — perfect for collectors of dog memorabilia, early animal photography, or artist’s studio archives.
