The image shows a section of Providence’s historic North Burial Ground, established in 1700 and still one of the city’s largest and most renowned cemeteries today. Covering over 150 acres, it serves as the final resting place for more than 100,000 individuals, including many prominent Rhode Islanders in areas such as politics, business, the arts, and early colonial history
Notable among the burials in the central section are members of the Brown, Curtis, and Thurber families—all early 19th-century Providence residents corresponding to the gravestones shown in the photograph..
