Hale Powers & Co., Cincinnati, Ohio, and lithographed by Strobridge & Co., Cincinnati.An elaborate Victorian-era fraternal allegorical print filled with the symbolic imagery associated with the Odd Fellows, including an all-seeing eye, sun and globe, skull and crossbones, handshake, open Holy Bible, anchor, scales, coffin, bow and arrows, and numerous narrative and biblical scenes surrounded by an ornamental vine border.The lower margin is printed “J. Hale Powers & Co. Publishers, Cin. O.” and “Strobridge & Co. Lith. Cinc.” The copyright inscription reads “Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1870, by Strobridge & Co., in the Office of the Librarian of Congress at Washington.”A striking surviving example of 19th-century American fraternal chromolithography, with exceptionally rich imagery and strong decorative appeal.Antique condition with substantial age-related wear, including toning, staining/discoloration, edge losses, tears, creasing and other paper deterioration.
