The Days of Sixty-Three, an anonymously published Civil War poem by Elizabeth Tilghman Brooke, printed in Philadelphia in 1864 for the benefit of the United States Sanitary Commission.
The pamphlet was issued during the year of Philadelphia’s Great Central Fair, held in June 1864 to raise funds for the Sanitary Commission and its work supporting Union soldiers. Particularly nice in this copy is the contemporary inscription, “Kate / Central Fair / June 1864,” directly associating the pamphlet with the month and setting of the Philadelphia fair.
A compelling piece of Civil War fundraising and Sanitary Commission ephemera, retaining its original pale green printed wrapper.
