Well preserved 9th plate Ambrotype of a stoic woman with no major issues, rot or scratches. Was stored in a desert climate for many decades.There is a note on the back that could easily be assumed to be the pictured subject\'s writing. AI analysis confirms the ink, paper and writing style is from the mid 19th century.While there is no direct link to the Civil War other than being produced in 1861, there\'s a lot of circumstantial stuff here.I believe the writing on the note is highly indicative it was meant for a soldier before he went to war, likely the husband John.The case is a very early Dean & Emerson and is Pre-Patent, it\'s creation date can be narrowed to a very brief period of 1861.The case, which is oddly difficult to read, as it is apparently stamped using a tool meant for mirrors (??) reads as:Dean & Emerson - Patent Applied ForWorcester, Mass. - No12For those who have trouble with cursive, the note on the back reads,
