Being offered is an original land grant. The land grant is signed James Buchanan who was president at the time and his secretary J Glancy Jones. The land grant was to Noah Ferry, and processed in Dixon, Illinois, Bureau County, on September 1, 1857. I do not believe President James Buchanan actually signed this, but signed for him J Glancy Jones, which I guess was the olden days auto pen. Te grant is on a thicker quality paper almost having a vellum like feel. The land grant show typical age related wearing, discoloration, soiling, and creasing from being folded. There are some edge bruises in places but overall the grant is intact with no rips or tears. The land grant is approx. 16" by 10 1/8".
I could not find any information on Noah ferry, but Google AI did state, "Yes, Jehu Glancy Jones (often referred to as J.Glancy Jones) signed for James Buchanan during his political career. Jones wasa close confidant, trusted adviser, and Pennsylvania congressman who notablynegotiated the merger of Franklin and Marshall College and served as Ambassadorto the Austrian Empire under the Buchanan administration. Because they were tight partisan partners,Jones frequently handled and signed political papers on behalf of Buchanan."
