Original 1848 Methodist Episcopal Church quarterly membership ticket measuring approximately 3\" x 2\".
This small antique religious ephemera card is dated by hand “Dec. 10, 1848” and bears the handwritten name of the church member across the top. It is signed/filled out for minister B. Slaughter.
The ticket is beautifully printed with an ornate decorative border and states “METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH, FOUNDED A.D. 1784.” It also features a passage from 2 Peter 2:9 and the verse:
“Give to the winds thy fears, Hope, and be undismay’d, God hears thy sighs, and counts thy tears, God shall lift up thy head.”
A wonderful surviving piece of mid-19th-century American Methodist history and religious ephemera.
Condition shows expected age-related wear, light discoloration/spotting and minor edge/corner wear. The reverse is blank. Please review all photographs for exact condition.
