Original early American probate document dated August 24, 1801, concerning the estate of Daniel Marston of Parsonsfield, York County, then part of Massachusetts and now Maine.
Issued through the York County Court of Probate under Judge Edward Cutts, the printed warrant appoints Joseph Parsons, Paul Burnham, and Moulton Smart as a committee to assign widow Mary Marston her dower, or one-third interest for life, in the real estate of her deceased husband Daniel Marston.
The document includes an extensive handwritten return describing the property assigned to Mary Marston. The description includes approximately 40 acres, property boundaries, stone walls and roads, along with portions of the dwelling house, cellar, barn and barnyard and rights involving cattle, manure and farm produce.
The committee's return is dated Parsonsfield, November 25, 1801. The matter was subsequently presented at the Court of Probate at York on April 20, 1802, where the report was accepted. The document also bears a record notation by Daniel Sewall, Register.
The folded docket is handwritten "Dower or Thirds in Daniel Marston's estate" and identifies it as a copy.

A particularly interesting early Maine/ Massachusetts legal document documenting widow's dower rights, land ownership and the physical division and use of an early 19th-century Parsonsfield farm.
Condition: Antique document more than 220 years old with original folds, toning, staining, edge wear and other age-related wear. Remnants of the original seal are present. Please review all photographs carefully for condition and document content.
