1788 Revolutionary War-Era Pennsylvania Bill of Sale – Cumberland County,:
$325.00

The document records the transfer of numerous items of personal property, including three horses, two cows, a black calf, seven sheep, two hogs, household furniture, and other goods, illustrating the agricultural economy of frontier Pennsylvania during the American Revolution.

The conveyance was formally acknowledged before William Lyon, Justice of the Court of Common Pleas, and was officially entered into the Cumberland County deed records on May 1, 1788, as noted in the recording endorsement on the reverse: Book H, Volume I, Page 519, in the Borough of Carlisle. Carlisle served as a major military depot and supply center for the Continental Army throughout the Revolutionary War.

A particularly attractive feature is the original embossed paper-wafer seal, still intact with its red pigment, a decorative survival seldom encountered on eighteenth-century Pennsylvania legal documents.

Date: April 1788
Place: Cumberland County [Carlisle], Pennsylvania
Document Type: Revolutionary War-era Bill of Sale [Chattel Deed]
Recorded: May 1, 1788, Book H, Vol. I, p. 519
Condition: Very good, with original folds, excellent manuscript quality, and an intact embossed wafer seal.

An outstanding original Revolutionary-period legal manuscript with excellent visual appeal, ideal for collectors of colonial Pennsylvania, Revolutionary War history, early American law, and eighteenth-century manuscripts.
