12.6 lb Lot Of Minerals Rocks From 50s Estate Azurmalachite Geothite Crystals ++:
$300.00

I'm going through a huge collection of rocks, minerals, crystals, ore, possible meteorites, and gems from an estate. These seem to have been collected in the mid 1900s in the western United States.I'm doing my best to take pictures and identify everything but I really don't have a clue. So whoever buys these will probably come away with a lot of value. Please be careful in handling these items since I do not know with certainty what each of them are. There is possible toxicity and radioactivity. This is just one of many lots to come, but I would also be interested in selling the whole thing to someone if they could give me 25% of what they think they can resell it for. Here are my best guesses based on books and AI on some of the items in this listing ( some items came with detailed descriptions and others have been identified by my local rock shop, but I have too many to id them all.large raw chalcopyrite.
Based on its physical appearance, this specimen is a metallic sulfide ore rock, most likely containing a high concentration of pyrite (commonly known as "fool's gold") or chalcopyrite embedded within a darker host rock matrix. Not sure what this one is but AI alternates between saying it's petrified wood and that it's a cone in cone mineral structure. It's heavy and hard.
AI: This specimen is a geological feature known as a cone-in-cone structure, typically composed of fibrous calcite or limestone.Key CharacteristicsAppearance: It features concentric, nested, interlocking cones stacked inside one another, giving it a distinctive ribbed, ridged, or jagged, woody appearance.Common Misidentifications: Because of its heavily textured look, it is frequently mistaken for petrified wood or fossilized teeth/corals. However, it is an inorganic, secondary sedimentary structure that forms due to pressure and mineral growth during burial and diagenesis (the transformation of sediment into rock). This specimen is a raw chunk of oxidized copper ore, primarily consisting of chrysocolla mixed with elements of malachite and a dark rock matrix and possibly turquoise. The specimen in the image shares strong visual characteristics with a hematite and quartz mineral cluster. The dark, metallic-gray groundmass consists of highly lustrous plates typical of specular hematite (also known as specularite), which often leaves a fine glitter on your skin when handled. The intersecting, reflective light-colored strips embedded throughout represent a distinct tabular crystal habit or intergrowth with clear to translucent quartz crystals. Patches of orange-brown coloration represent iron oxide staining (limonite or rust) weathering across the matrix. could also be pegmatite or mica schist, specifically featuring a high concentration of biotite mica. This striking specimen is a rough azurite and malachite combination mineral, often referred to in the gemstone community as azurmalachite. This specimen resembles a natural green fluorite or demantoid garnet cluster attached to its host rock matrix. This image shows a beautiful geological specimen featuring vibrant yellow-green olivine crystals (gem-quality versions are known as peridot) embedded within a dark, fine-grained volcanic rock matrix, which is typically basalt.Geologically, this is often called an olivine nodule or a peridotite xenolith. It forms deep within the Earth's mantle under intense heat and pressure. When volcanoes erupt, the rising magma sweeps up these pre-formed crystal clusters and carries them to the surface, where they cool rapidly inside the surrounding basalt lava flows.I think this is a Goethite crystal cluster but here is what AI thinks:
The specimen in the photo appears to be a black tourmaline (var. Schorl) flower cluster or needle-like crystal growth growing alongside a white quartz matrix.
Based on the slender, tightly packed crystalline habit, this is an acicular (needle-like) mineral growth on a lighter matrix. Because several distinct black minerals can grow in this specific velvety, hair-like, or needle-like format, it is most consistent with one of the following possibilities:1. PyrolusitePyrolusite (MnO₂) is a very common manganese mineral known for forming dark, soot-black acicular crusts. It frequently forms dense mats or "fuzzy" aggregate coatings over a quartz or rock base. If it rubs off easily and leaves a dark black streak on your fingers, it is highly likely to be pyrolusite.
2. GoethiteGoethite (\(\alpha\text{-FeO(OH)}\)) is an iron oxide-hydroxide mineral that commonly forms radial, fibrous, or acicular needle-like crystal peaks. When it grows in dense sprays, it can look intensely black and slightly metallic.Based on its visual characteristics, this specimen is a porphyritic mafic igneous rock, most consistent with porphyritic phonolite or basalt containing distinct mineral inclusions.probably: River Pebbles (Chert, Jasper, or Quartzite)Most commonly, smooth stones like these are alluvial river rocks.
