📌 DESCRIPTION
This 11th Special Forces Group (Airborne) challenge coin commemorates a distinctive U.S. Army Reserve Special Forces formation whose history spans the Cold War era and concluded with the group’s inactivation in 1994. The combination of explicit unit identification, the 1961-1994 dates, Green Beret imagery, and traditional Special Forces symbolism gives this example considerably more historical context than a general Special Forces coin.
The obverse prominently displays the 11th Special Forces Group identification surrounding a large unit shield incorporating the crossed arrows and dagger of the Special Forces insignia. DE OPPRESSO LIBER appears across the central device, while [AIRBORNE] is raised along the lower rim. Black enamel provides a strong backdrop for the red, white, cyan, and gold-tone details.
The reverse carries the story further with a large Green Beret bearing the unit flash, positioned over a horizontal combat dagger and framed by laurel branches. Beneath it are the dates 1961 and 1994, the Special Forces shoulder sleeve insignia, and the words AIR, LAND, SEA, creating a strong visual connection to the broad operational capabilities traditionally associated with Army Special Forces.

🧭 CONDITION & PHOTO NOTES
This 11th Special Forces Group (Airborne) coin retains bright enamel, sharp raised lettering and insignia, clean edge definition, and strong contrast across both sides, with light surface marks visible on the polished metal areas from prior handling or display.
The large polished reverse field, raised scrollwork, enamel-filled insignia, and approximately 2.01-inch diameter give the coin substantial visual presence while preserving the detailed unit and commemorative elements.
As with most pre-owned collectible challenge coins, light evidence of handling, display, storage, or age may be present. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form part of the description and provide the best representation of the exact coin you will receive.
📸 Photos are taken under high-intensity lighting to highlight fine details, sculpting, and finish. This lighting may reveal minor surface characteristics that are often less noticeable during normal display.
