You are offerding on a group of 5 Vintage Japanese  Kutani-Style Moriage Dragon Plates. This group includes 2 saucers and 2 desert plates and a sugar bowl that is missing the lid. The Desert Plates are 7 inches in diameter, the saucers are 5.5 inches in diameter.  These pieces are extra pieces we had and listing if someone needs a replacement. The pieces are in very good condition for their age. One desert plate has a small chip on the edge. Please check our other sales for more Kutani-Style Moriage Dragon pieces.

• Moriage Technique: Artisans applied diluted clay slip in layers—similar to decorating a cake—to create a distinct, raised relief texture for the dragon\'s body, scales, and clouds.

• Dragonware Style: The dragon designs are usually hand-painted in colors like black, orange, blue, or gray, highlighted heavily with white enamel and gold or silver trim. 
  

 History and Origin

• Export Ware: While inspired by traditional Kutani and Satsuma ceramic styles, these specific dragon-themed tea sets were produced primarily for export to Western markets (frequently sold to American service members and tourists) from the late 1930s through the 1960s. 

• Cultural Fusion: Dragons were heavily utilized on these mid-century export pieces to cater to Western collector appeal, blending traditional Japanese raised-enamel craftsmanship with mythical Asian motifs.
