Though item looks simple it is highly historic in nature having known Alan Shepard\'s highly accoladed spirits and achievements. Its overall size measures a large \"1 feet 5 inches x 2 foot 4 inches\" with scattered soiling showing his usage. HONORS AND AWARDS
During his life, Shepard was awarded enormous awards the Congressional Space Medal of Honor (by President Jimmiy Carter in 1978 for his pioneering Mercury flight); two Nasa Distinguished Service Medals in 1961 and 1971, the NASA Exeptional Achivement Medal, Navy Astronaut Wings, the Navy Distinguished Service Medal, and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He received the Langely Gold Medal which is the highest award of the Smithsonian Institution for aeronautics and astronautics on May 5, 1964; the Lambert trophy the the Collier Trophy; and the City of New York Gold Medal for 1971.He was inducted into the U.S Astonaut Hall of Fame on May 11, 1990.A Navy ship was named after him USNS Alan Shepard.
