The piece is believed to date to the 1880s, during the height of the Victorian era in the United States. During this period, Meriden Britannia Co. actively produced luxurious vanity garnitures, including decorative perfume bottle holders in a variety of elaborate artistic designs.
The glass perfume bottle was likely originally selected or made specifically to fit this metal holder. Meriden Britannia Co. products of this period are known for incorporating high-quality imported glass, including Bohemian glass, which was highly popular in American decorative arts during the late 19th century.
The perfume bottle is made of frosted crystal, featuring hand-painted decoration and gilded accents.
