Here is a Roman era museum quality Greek alabastron It is a glass bottle that contain oils or perfume. Vessels like this one began being used in the late bronze age and early iron age in greater Mesopotamia. Its small size and rounded shape make it possible to hold this vessel in your hand so you can easily understand how it was used in ancient times--especially with the four nodules added for secure handling.The bottle is the expected beautiful greek blue with design work over most of its body including the rim. It stands 3" tall and 2" wide with small feet 1/2" tall. It has four nodules at its shoulder for easy handling. It curves inward at its shoulder to a neck that is 1' tall. It flares outward at the top to a rim that is 1" in diameter.The design work on the body looks like beautiful leaves or could be flames from a fire done in red at the bottom, yellow in the middle and the top. They are surrounded by white line that circles the shoulder and the bottom of the jar. The feet have a spot of white on each. and the nodules have a spot of yellow. The neck has six red lines encircling it. The rim has red and yellow on it.IT is a beautiful example of Greek core formed glass %100 complete repaired and intact. Examples of ancient Greek perfume bottles like this one can be found in the Ha Glass exhibition in Tel Aviv.Includes COA dated 25/10/03 from jeweler of silver and Roman glass Israel Shunem.
