Woman Looking from Shingled Window NYC 1981 Gelatin Silver Photograph

This original 5 x 7 black and white photograph was taken and hand-developed in 1981 by Thomas Schmidler in New York City. The image features a figure peering out of an upper-story window of a building clad in patterned shingles, with worn architectural details and overhead wires cutting across the frame.

The composition blends texture, shadow, and human presence, hinting at life inside the aging structure. Printed in the artist’s own darkroom on gelatin silver paper, this vintage photograph reflects Schmidler’s eye for quiet, telling moments in the urban landscape.

This is an original 1981 photograph taken and developed by my dad, Thomas Alan Schmidler in his darkroom.
