Rare WWI U.S. Army / Tank Corps Original Photograph Collection – 14 Photos
Offered here is a collection of 14 vintage black-and-white military and personal photographs dating from the World War I era, acquired together and being kept together as one historical group.
The highlight of the collection is an excellent photograph showing an early U.S. Army heavy tank clearly numbered:
9602
Research through the State Archives of North Carolina independently identifies U.S. Army tank #9602 as operating at the Camp Polk Tank School in Raleigh, North Carolina during World War I. The State Archives collection includes photographs documenting this same numbered tank during Camp Polk training operations.
The photographs in this lot include:
* U.S. Army tank #9602
* Additional early WWI tank photographed from the front
* Close-up photographs of tank track / mechanical components
* WWI-era U.S. Army soldiers in uniform
* Soldier wearing WWI helmet
* Soldiers with rifles and military equipment
* Soldiers photographed around camp/tent areas
* Outdoor photographs apparently taken during hiking/travel
* Multiple handwritten period captions on the backs
Several reverse inscriptions appear to read:
“In the woods near Round Top”
“Overlooking the Cumberland Valley”
“Sergt. Zeh one of my pals on the side of Mt. Quirauk”
Additional inscriptions reference Mt. Quirauk and include “A Pretty Picture.”
Because the photographs were laid out separately from their backs during documentation, I am not representing which handwritten caption belongs to a particular front image unless physically confirmed by the buyer from the photograph itself. All inscribed and blank backs are part of the original photographs included.
These appear to be genuine period photographic prints and not modern reproductions, although no professional photographic authentication has been performed.
The collection has substantial age and shows various signs of more than 100 years of handling/storage, including toning, fading, edge wear, clipped or damaged corners, small tears, staining and surface wear.
All 14 photographs shown are included.
Please closely examine every photograph for exact content and condition. You will receive the exact collection pictured.
