Up for sale is a genuine, authentic WWI-era photographic portrait of a high-ranking Viceroy’s Commissioned Officer (likely a Subedar or Jemadar) serving in the British Indian Army. The officer is pictured in immaculate, formal hot-weather dress attire, featuring a clean white achkan tunic, a distinctive wide regimental cummerbund with metallic clasps, and a formally tied ceremonial turban. Notably, he wears a three-ribbon campaign medal bar on his chest, indicating he was a seasoned veteran of the late-Victorian or Edwardian frontier conflicts before serving in the Great War.The photo is set up inside an improvised camp studio, shot against a white wall with the subject standing barefoot on a laid-out canvas sheet. The reverse has faint, vintage pencil notations. It is in very good historical condition with crisp contrast and only minor edge wear consistent with its age. This print originates from a larger British officer\'s family archive tracking a deployment from India to the Mesopotamian campaign. A wonderful piece for collectors of the British Raj or WWI Indian military history. Please see the scans for full condition details.
