Original World War I-era press/news photograph showing Calea Victoriei in Bucharest, Romania, with an early streetcar/tram, automobiles, pedestrians and historic architecture visible in the scene.
The original typed caption on the reverse is headed “THE ADVANCE IN BUCAREST” and states that enemy forces appeared to be closing around Bucharest. It identifies the photograph as Calea Victoriei, described as the principal and most fashionable street in Bucharest.
The reverse bears an original TOPICAL PRESS AGENCY, 10 & 11 Red Lion Court, Fleet Street, London E.C. stamp.
This appears to date from approximately 1916, during the World War I campaign in Romania and the Central Powers’ advance toward Bucharest.
A particularly interesting original historical photograph combining WWI, Romanian history, early transportation, architecture and press photography.
Condition: Antique photograph with age-related wear, including corner/edge wear, light creasing, surface marks and toning. Original caption remains attached to the reverse. Please examine all photographs carefully for exact condition.
Sold as an original historical photograph, not a modern reproduction.
