For your consideration is this gorgeous, new old stock super expensive vintage 1980's Shibori necktie by a world famous artist: a handmade piece of silk kimono fabric from Japan, featuring a beautiful Tsuchigahana floral pattern against a golden crinkled brown background inspired by 1600's dye technique revived by world famousTsuchgahana (flowers at the crossroads) fabric artist Itchiku Kubota. He is known throughout the world even creating a sensation at the Smithsonian, and there is a museum in his name exhibiting his most notable creations located in Japan. He passed in 2003.
I remember his exhibit at a major Japanese department store in Ginza drew 13 stories of line-up back in the early 1980's. People waited for hours to view the event. His kimonos are worth tens of thousands even back then. I also saw an earlier exhibit at the world famous WAKO exclusive Ginza boutique before he was famous beyond words.
I love his work and purchased his ties beginning in the late 1970's. They were very expensive even back then. This particular one was never worn. He passed away in the early 2000's; this particular tie was handmade/hand dyed at his studio and the handwritten in Japanese paper tag says 'Tsuchigahana.'
The tie comes in its original plastic and paper sleeves with handwritten tags and is of men's free size, making it a unique and collectible item for those interested in Asian cultures and ethnicities. Made with high-quality materials and craftsmanship, this collectible necktie showcases the rich heritage and traditions of Japanese design.
Owning an Itchiku Tsuchigana original is very hard to come by. His legacy and method of creating his type of Tsuchigahana technique, which had disappeared four hundred years ago until his rediscovery, is sought after by collectors. If you love rare traditional Japanese textile art or statement-making neckties, this is a must have!
Please note the necktie paper sleeve has damage on backside. See photo. Thank you.
