A charming hand painted terra~cotta gnome made by the Heissner Company. August Heissner is actually credited with the invention of garden gnomes, and the German company he founded in 1872, is still in business today. This particular gnome was featured in the Heissner Garden catalog along with the model number 754.
This gnome is colorful, has a unique look, and a very distinct personality. Both hands have small holes in them, and at one time he carried a fishing pole. Complete his look by adding a small pole, tool, twig, leaf, or flower to his hands. There are no marks on the base, and his body is hollow ~ which is the norm. He wears a green textured sweater, brown pants, a red hat, and black shoes. His body sits against a tree stump. This gnome is a good size, standing 11" tall. He is 4.25" wide. Most of the gnomes produced today are plastic. The older ones like this charming fellow, are made of painted terra-cotta. This statue is perfect with no chips or cracks and vivid colors.
Pre-owned exactly as seen. He is missing his fishing pole as previously noted and does have green felt attached to the base as seen in photos. I do not accept returns so please ask all questions and view all photos before purchase and thank you for looking
