This listing is for the exact cast iron skillet (considered a chicken fryer) in the photos. It is a vintage Lodge skillet produced during the 1930s time period, a rare model which has a scalloped crescent moon shaped raised design on the bottom, intended to be a creative heat ring design. It has been restored and seasoned with avocado oil, which has a high smoke point.
This skillet appears to have been plated at some time in the very distant past (it\'s close to 100 years old), though the cooking surface and a good portion of the inside walls don\'t show plating. The surface is very smooth and is not sticky or tacky at all. It will become more even as the skillet is used, and more seasoning is accumulated. This beautiful cast iron piece is heavy, weighing just over 5½ lbs, so it has a helper handle, as shown. There is no lid.
This skillet sits flat, has no wobble, and does not spin.
Please note that the uneven area on the bottom edge of this skillet is NOT a crack. This skillet was produced over 90 years ago, so production techniques were not perfected yet, leaving some occasional uneven areas. This skillet is very solid, and the small uneven area doesn\'t affect its use, just adds some extra character and individuality to the skillet.
