Offered is a scarce vintage ZENITH / M.W.H. Co. adjustable-mouth knuckle-joint block plane, manufactured for Marshall-Wells Hardware.
This plane exhibits characteristic Sargent manufacture, including the Sargent-style cutter-mounted lateral adjustment and an adjustable front plate marked 306 underneath. The cutter carries the distinctive ZENITH / M.W.H. Co. sunburst trademark.
An unusual private-label variation that is much less commonly encountered than standard Sargent-branded block planes.
The plane has been carefully cleaned and oiled while preserving its original aged appearance and patina. It has not been aggressively polished or cosmetically restored.
The cutter has been sharpened, the mechanisms have been cleaned and lubricated, and the plane has been adjusted and tested. It is currently taking clean shavings, as shown in the photographs.
