My Mom got this for her graduation & never used it. She graduated in 1948. The detail is as follows :Your mom’s graduation gift is a vintage wooden souvenir photo album (or scrapbook), and it was absolutely a commercially produced novelty item.While these albums have a rustic, "hand-crafted" folk-art appearance, they were incredibly popular commercial gifts and travel souvenirs during the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s.The Wooden Cover & Engraving: The 8x6-inch size was a standard compact size for "snapshot" albums. The "MY TRIP" text, trees, and bird figures were typically created using commercial pyrography (wood-burning) or mechanical stamping machines. Manufacturers produced these covers with generic travel or milestone themes so they could be given as graduation, wedding, or vacation gifts.The Leather Strap Binding: The leather cord threaded through two holes is a classic mid-century design element. This wasn't just decorative; it was a functional binding system. It allowed the owner to untie the strap and expand the album by adding more pages as they took more photos.
The Black Paper: In the 1940s, heavy black construction paper was the universal standard for photo albums. Because photographs of that era typically had bright white borders, they contrasted beautifully against black backgrounds. Photos were usually mounted to these pages using small, adhesive paper "photo corners".The White Paper: The white sheets served one of two purposes. Most often, they were thin sheets of glassine or tissue paper interleaved between the black pages to protect the photos from rubbing against each other, scratching, or sticking together.
