This original1942 U.S. Navy Bureau of Ships clinometerwas designed to measure theangle of a ship’s roll or heel to port or starboard. As the ship tilted, the weighted brass pendulum remained vertical while the graduated scale showed the degree of inclination—giving the crew a direct indication of how far the vessel was leaning.
Clearly dated1942, this is a fascinating piece of functional American naval equipment from the WWII period and an impressive display piece for a naval, maritime or military collection.
