Wonderful vintage photo album / scrapbook made in Saigon, Vietnam, featuring a striking hand-painted nautical scene on the front cover.
The cover has a deep blue and black background with a colorful stylized scene depicting a small boat, figures, sails or fishing nets, birds and shoreline details. The artwork is accented in white, orange, yellow, blue and other colors and has a beautiful mid-century Asian decorative appearance.
An original label remains on the back and reads:
“Sản phẩm KỲ-QUANG
chế tạo tại Saigon”
The label identifies this as a Kỳ-Quang product manufactured in Saigon.
The album features:
• Vintage Saigon, Vietnam manufacture
• Kỳ-Quang maker label
• Decorative painted front cover
• Blue/turquoise patterned fabric-covered back
• Large metal spiral binding
• Black scrapbook/photo mounting pages
• Original white photo corner mounts
• Protective/interleaving sheets
• Currently empty and ready for photographs, memorabilia or display
This piece appears consistent with a mid-20th-century / Vietnam War-era souvenir photo album.
According to the history provided with the album, it was brought home from Vietnam by a serviceman. No military documentation accompanies the album, so that personal provenance cannot be independently verified and is being included only as the history that was passed along with the piece.
Vintage condition with age-related wear to the covers, edges, pages and binding as shown. There is some discoloration, surface wear and edge/corner wear consistent with age and storage. The aged appearance adds to the authentic vintage character of the album.
A very interesting piece for a collector of Vietnam War-era memorabilia, Saigon souvenirs, vintage Asian albums, military bring-back items, travel memorabilia, mid-century decorative art or historical photography accessories.
