Description:Up for sale is a wonderful piece of local Michigan history! This is a vintage framed advertising thermometer from The Big Store (Men's and Boys' Apparel), which was a landmark downtown business located in Grand Haven, Michigan.The Big Store in Grand Haven, Michigan was originally founded in 1884 by the VandenBosch family. The store operated under a couple of names throughout its lifespan:
- Late 1800s to Mid 1900s: It was widely known and advertised as "The Big Store" (as seen on your vintage thermometer), though it also operated as Vanden Bosch Clothiers and Dry Goods. It was a prominent fixture at the corner of Third and Columbus Streets (specifically 100 North 3rd Street).
- 1943–1951: Ed Baas acquired the clothing business in 1943.
The historic brick building at 100 N. Third Street eventually became home to a local law practice in late 2003.This charming piece features a serene, snowy alpine mountain landscape with rustic cabins.
