For your consideration is this beautiful pair of vintage Asian-inspired wall art plaques featuring hand-painted natural clam shells mounted on wooden panels. This style draws inspiration from traditional Japanese Kai-awase (shell-matching) art, showcasing intricate miniature scenes painted directly onto the polished interior of natural shells.
Each panel features three uniquely detailed scenes, including traditional figures, colorful birds (such as a pheasant amidst bamboo and blossoms), and serene mountain landscape scenes with pavilions. The frames are accented with ornate, traditional brass geometric ruyi cloud hangers at the top for easy wall mounting.Measurements• Total Frame Length: 10 inches (~25 cm)
• Frame Width: Approx. 4 inchesCondition ReportThese items are in good vintage condition with beautiful colors and a lovely aged patina. Please note the following specific details from age and storage (also visible in the photos):
• The painted artwork on the shells remains vibrant and intact.
• The delicate wooden borders framing the individual shells show some natural age-related shrinkage, resulting in hairline cracks and slight separation from the shell edges in a few spots. This does not impact the structural integrity of the display.
• The two panels feature mismatched backing boards (one light plywood, one darker fiberboard), suggesting production variations or different periods of backing replacement.
Please review all high-resolution photos carefully as they form part of the visual description. Sold as-is as a set of two.
