RARE VINTAGE MID-CENTURY NATIVE AMERICAN STERLING SILVER CIGARETTE CASE / TOBACCO POCKET BOX
Featuring a stunning High-Relief Shadowbox Snake & Leaf Motif – In the Style of Zuni Master Dan Simplicio
Up for sale is an incredibly rare, completely handmade Southwestern sterling silver personal pocket case/tobacco box. This exquisite mid-century collector's piece features a two-piece slide-on/sleeve construction and displays magnificent, top-tier tribal artistry.
Central Motif: A fully dimensional, hand-carved silver snake with inset eyes coils beautifully around natural stones. This is flanked by a meticulously detailed, fan-shaped overlay leaf and tiny silver drop beads.
• The Stones: Houses two gorgeous natural turquoise nuggets with characteristic matrix character alongside a vibrant, central Mediterranean red coral nugget. All stones are securely held in fine, hand-serrated bezels.
• Background & Border: The central scene is set within a heavily stippled, dark oxidized shadowbox recess to provide dramatic depth. The entire front panel is framed by a tightly packed, hand-chiseled parallel stamp border.
Material: Solid Heavy-Gauge Sterling Silver. While it does not bear a modern "Sterling" stamp—which is completely customary for authentic, handmade tribal silver of this era—it has been professionally tested and verified as true .925 sterling silver.
Interior Markings: The inner tray features a historic, lightly hand-engraved owner identification or trading post pawn mark that reads "ANTON", adding fantastic mid-century Southwestern character and provenance.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition with a beautiful, uncleaned natural patina. The sleeve lid slips over the inner box smoothly and holds together exactly as intended.
