For sale is a beautiful, vintage multi-panel copper relief wall plaque installation dating from around the mid-20th century (c. 1950s–1970s). Produced predominantly in West Germany during the height of the mid-century European decorative metal art movement, this piece features detailed, chemically-etched and engraved imagery onto adjacent, conjoined metallic copper panels. The primary panel depicts an exceptional rendition of German Biedermeier master Carl Spitzweg’s famous 19th-century romantic painting, The Alchemist (Der Alchimist), showcasing an elderly scholar huddled over a detailed distillation setup.
The adjacent side panel transitions into a classic romantic street scene featuring a couple sharing a moment under an umbrella beneath towering architecture.
