A wonderfully whimsical vintage Italian majolica covered butter dish, featuring a sculptural vegetable-form dog resting on a richly glazed green leaf platter.
The removable cover is modeled in colorful fruits and vegetables, with a yellow-green dog’s head, leafy ears and collar, an elongated golden vegetable body, and pink and purple produce accents. The coordinating oval underplate is molded with overlapping leaves and finished in a deep glossy green glaze.
The underside is clearly marked “Made in Italy / Nordstrom,” indicating Italian manufacture for retail by Nordstrom.
Equal parts functional serveware and decorative object, this is an especially charming piece for a collected kitchen, country-house table, open shelving, or a display of vintage Italian ceramics.
Measurements: The base measures approximately 8.5” long × 5.25” wide. The removable cover measures approximately 7” long × 3.25” wide.
Condition: Good vintage condition with light age-related wear and minor marks to the underside and contact surfaces. No obvious major chips, cracks or repairs are visible in the supplied photographs. Please review all photographs closely for additional condition details.
