Antique 1913 Halloween postcard designed by Samuel L. Schmucker and published by John Winsch, featuring a frightened boy surrounded by a crowd of glowing jack-o’-lanterns against a dark blue, star-filled background. The expressive pumpkin faces, dramatic composition, and vivid orange-and-blue palette are classic Schmucker Halloween imagery.
The lower front reads “Hallowe’en Pumpkins” with the verse:
“With pumpkin heads all peering,
Is it not a fearsome sight?
For the witching hour is nearing
Of Hallowe’en midnight.”
Marked “Design Copyrighted, John Winsch, 1913” on the front. Reverse is divided back and marked Printed in Germany, with handwritten identification and the date Oct. 30, 1914. Card appears unused for mailing with no postage stamp or postmark.
Condition shows age-related wear including light corner/edge wear, mild surface soiling/discoloration, and visible writing/impressions on the reverse. Front image remains bright and attractive with strong color. Please review photos closely for complete condition.
