This is an exceptional vintage oversized die measuring approximately 2 1/4" across, made in France and finished in a beautiful deep translucent cherry/amber color with contrasting ivory-colored pips.
The underside retains an old MADE IN FRANCE label as well as an old John Wanamaker retail/inventory label.
The material has been tested and is consistent with vintage Bakelite/Catalin phenolic resin.
Please note the condition carefully. The die shows vintage surface scratches, scuffs and general age/use wear. There are also internal stress lines/crazing visible beneath the surface, along with areas of internal crystallized/cloudy appearance. These internal characteristics are particularly visible when the piece is viewed closely or under strong light. Be sure to examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
Despite the age-related condition issues, this is an unusually large and striking vintage French die with a beautiful deep cherry color. It measures 2.25" per side, which is, for this type of die, very large.
The original labels remain attached to the underside. No restoration attempted.
