Add dramatic Asian-inspired character to a wall or decorative arts collection with this vintage Chinese carved wood and gilt figural wall panel, featuring a deeply dimensional openwork scene mounted against a dark reddish-brown wooden backing. The elaborate relief depicts figures in traditional dress, mounted warriors, architectural elements, trees, and a bridge or gateway, all rendered in an antiqued gold-tone finish with intricate pierced detailing. The vertically arranged narrative scene and traditional Chinese motifs make this an eye-catching example of Chinoiserie, Asian wall decor, carved relief art, and Chinese figural decorative panels. Based on its decorative construction and style, this piece appears to date to approximately the mid-to-late 20th century, circa 1960s, and was made in China. Good vintage condition with minor wear consistent with age and use.
