Vintage Bickmore Big Four Equine & Veterinary Advertising Set — Original Box & Containers New Old Stock
Offered is a vintage Bickmore Company “Big Four” advertising/product set, preserved together in its original combination box from The Bickmore Company of Old Town, Maine, U.S.A.
The original box identifies this as a “Special Combination Offer” containing four Bickmore products:
- Bickmore Gall Salve
- Bickmore XYZ Ointment
- Bickmore Fly Salve
- Bickmore EXODR
The original box is particularly interesting because it brings these four Bickmore products together as a single promotional package. The box is printed with a regular value of 85¢ and special combination offer of 69¢.
The original containers are included with the box and retain their original vintage labels, graphics, typography and advertising information.
Smithsonian Connection
Bickmore products are represented in the collections of the Smithsonian\'s National Museum of American History, including Bickmore Gall Salve and Bickmore Fly Salve.
Even more notably, the Smithsonian\'s Alan and Elaine Levitt Advertisement Collection includes a Bickmore Gall Salve box among its historical veterinary-supply advertising material.
This makes the original packaging and advertising aspect of this group particularly interesting to collectors of vintage advertising, equine history, veterinary history, pharmaceutical packaging and Maine business history.
Family Provenance
There is also an unusual family connection to the Bickmore Company. A member of the seller\'s family owned Bickmore, Inc. for nearly 30 years during the 1970s–1990s. These particular products predate that period of ownership and were retained as part of the family\'s Bickmore-related history.
This provenance is being provided as family history and is not intended to imply that these particular containers were manufactured during that ownership period.
Original Contents & Collectible Notice - New Old Stock
Original, unopened vintage stock. The container has never been opened or used, and the original contents remain inside. The tin does exhibit age-related cosmetic wear consistent with its considerable age.
This is an original vintage Bickmore Big Four container that appears to remain sealed and unopened. I have not opened the container or removed the original contents, so the condition of the contents inside has not been inspected. The item is offered strictly as a historical advertising and veterinary-history collectible, not for veterinary, medical, animal-treatment, or other use. The original contents have been left undisturbed rather than opening or altering this historic container. Due to its age, the contents should not be considered suitable for use. Please review all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the description.
The sale is for the original vintage containers, labels, graphics, advertising and original combination box as collectible historical advertising memorabilia.
The contents are not intended for use on people or animals.
Please review all photographs carefully. The vintage packaging exhibits the expected signs of age and storage, including wear, discoloration, aging and other imperfections consistent with its age.
Why This Item Is Desirable
A particularly appealing feature of this group is that the four original Bickmore products remain together with their original combination box rather than being separated into individual tins.
The combination of:
Bickmore + original Big Four box + four matching product containers + equine/veterinary advertising + historical Maine manufacturer + Smithsonian-documented Bickmore products + family provenance
makes this an unusual collectible for the right vintage advertising or Bickmore collector.
