Vintage souvenir trinket tray from Atlantic City, New Jersey, stamped “MADE IN OCCUPIED JAPAN” on the back, so it dates to the 1947-1952 occupation period.
Details
- Embossed scenes of the Auditorium and Convention Hall and “The World Famous Steel Pier,” with an “Atlantic City N.J.” banner at the bottom
- Decorative border of poppies and leaf sprays in raised relief
- Oval shape with a scalloped edge
- Metal: white metal (possibly silver-plated). I’m not certain of the exact alloy.
- Measures approximately 5\"x 3\"inches
- Weight: 2.4 oz
- Marked “Made in Occupied Japan.” No maker’s mark or other markings found.
Condition
Good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. There is tarnish and darkening, some small dents and waviness, and wear on the high points of the relief. The back is worn. The details of the scenes are still clear. There is no cleaning or polishing, so it is as found. Please see all photos, which are part of the description.
Notes
Sold as a decorative collectible. Because older white metals can contain lead, it is not intended for food use.
