***********Vintage Acoma Pueblo Pottery Cow Effigy Pitcher, signed, ca. 1935-1940, 6-1/4" H************
This is a very nice cow effigy pitched made by an unknown potter in Acoma in the 2nd quarter of the 20th century. It stand 6-1/4" high and is 5" at its widest point. The pitcher is expertly decorated with natural polychrome paints, black foliate elements and orange flowers on a white slip. The cow has an open mouth and two small horns on top of its head. The handle is twisted clay.
With the exception of an almost imperceptible chip to the lower jaw of the cow (which might not even be a chip) the piece is in pristine condition. There is a wonderful soft patina all over. It is signed on the bottom, "Acoma" and "N. Mexico". There are no cracks or repairs to the piece. It is very rare to find an effigy this old and this delicate without any defects.
Please take a look at the pictures and let me know if you have any questions.
