Offered here is an original vintage “SPACE ’66” pinback button dating to 1966.
The button features a bold yellow-and-black design resembling an octagonal sign, with the word SPACE prominently displayed above ’66. At the top is a silhouette depicting an adult with children.
The imagery strongly suggests that this piece was associated with a 1966 civic, school, or community facilities campaign, possibly involving the need for additional space for children or families. However, the exact organization behind the “SPACE ’66” campaign has not been conclusively identified, so this listing does not attribute it to a specific school district, city, or organization.
The pinback has classic mid-1960s construction with an open metal reverse and long straight pin.
Condition: Good vintage condition with scattered scratches, light surface wear, edge wear and small age marks to the front. The reverse shows oxidation and age-related finish crazing. Original straight pin remains intact.
An intriguing piece of 1960s civic and social-history ephemera with a strong period graphic design.
