Up for sale is an incredibly rare, museum-grade piece of computing history:An original IBM "The Thinker" Product Line Planning Department Lucite Paperweight from the mid-1960s. An identical piece from this exact run was featured in the New York Historical Society’s"Silicon City"exhibition.This unique industrial artwork features a miniature replica of Auguste Rodin’sThe Thinker, hand-assembled entirely out of vintage 1960s electronic resistors and transistors seated on a mineral rock base. Engraved cleanly inside the bottom black base is IBM's iconic "THINK" motto.Condition Details:
- Lucite/Display Surfaces:Near-Mint. The clear acrylic is spectacularly bright and water-clear with no yellowing, no internal clouding, and no major scratches or chips. It displays beautifully from every angle.
- Base/Bottom:The bottom shows the typical, honest aging expected of a 60-year-old corporate relic. It features a faint outline of dried adhesive residue from the long-lost original corporate sticker, and is missing three of its tiny original felt bumper dots (one remains). There are no deep structural scratches or damage to the plastic itself.
Because these were given strictly as internal, low-volume department gifts rather than commercial products, surviving examples in this condition are almost impossible to find.Measures about 2 1/2” wide by 3” I have taken photos at every angle any discoloration you see is from background.This is crystal clear!
