Vintage 1953 Japanese lacquered wood wall plaque depicting a traditional shrine/temple scene in Nikko, Japan. Features detailed architectural artwork surrounded by trees, Japanese characters, and a carved/incised decorative border.

Measures approximately 11.5” tall × 11” wide.

The reverse is hand inscribed “Don C. Esslinger, July 3, 1953” and retains an old paper label reading “Nikko, Japan Shrine.” The inscription provides a wonderful piece of history and suggests the plaque was acquired as a souvenir of Japan in 1953.

Original hanging wire remains attached.
