Charming vintage mid-century ceramic planter featuring a Scottie/terrier dog leaning over a whimsical stack of books.
The dog is finished in a rich burgundy-red glaze, while the stacked books have wonderful chartreuse-yellow, green, pink and brown tones. The open rectangular top can be used as a small planter, pencil holder, desk caddy or decorative catchall.
Circa 1940s–1950s, most likely 1950s.
Measures approximately 5” tall.
Unmarked on the underside; maker and country of origin are unknown.
Vintage condition with overall glaze crazing, surface wear, discoloration/soil to the interior and wear to the unglazed underside consistent with age. No obvious major chips or repairs noted from inspection. Please review photos closely as they are part of the description.
Wonderful collectible for lovers of Scottish Terriers, vintage dog décor, mid-century ceramics, novelty planters and vintage library/desk accessories.
