Up for sale is this WORKING 1950's Darb brand portable radio. This came in several colors and versions and mainly was marketed as a bicycle radio. This used 3 batteries in the original power supply compartment, two 1.5V "D" batteries and one 67.5V B+ battery which hasn't been made for a lot of years. I substituted seven 9 volt batteries in series to compensate for the 67.5V (measured 64.5V on my multi-meter). I soldered in the leads to the originally battery connector so this can be undone with a soldering iron in under 1 minute. I do not have any of the original mounting hardware or other cables Darbs came with for the bike setup. See pics for details.
Additional info below:
- Antenna extends out to full length, I shortened up to fit in picture, else in good shape with no issues.
- Volume knob (the red knob not the control) is loose, wants to come off maybe missing a piece inside that helped hold it on. One could fix easily - I suggest not gluing on...maybe a tiny piece of dbl sided tape to hold in place.
- See video - I had to film outdoors as my LED and CFL lights were causing noise. You can see my cell phone was creating problems for the video. Stations 1 and 2 were distant I tuned in, but station 3 - strong signal - is my only local AM station. Hopefully if you have 3 local stations you will have 3 strong settings.
- Headphone jack untested.
- Your chance to own one that works. Others here on listed as untested or not working.
- Please ask any questions before offerding.
- Being a vintage electronic item, I do not accept returns.
- I ship FEDEX to Lower 48 USA only.
