Vintage German Brass Stag / Deer Cigar or Tobacco Box – Circa 1930s
Wonderful vintage German hunting-themed wooden box featuring an elaborate brass lid with a large three-dimensional roaring stag/deer head, dramatic raised antlers, and oak-leaf decoration.
The lid has an attractive naturally aged mottled green/gray patina surrounding the darkened brass stag, with traces of warmer brass coloration visible on the raised details. The combination gives the piece a wonderful antique hunting-lodge appearance.
The hinged box has a dark brown exterior finish and natural wood interior. The stag and oak-leaf ornament is particularly impressive, with the large antlers rising substantially above the lid.
Condition: Good vintage condition for its age with substantial authentic age and use wear. There is finish loss, scratching and edge/corner wear to the wooden box; oxidation, patination, spotting and finish variation to the brass lid; and wear to the underside and interior. The brass stag has an aged dark patina with areas of lighter/brassy coloration. There is some loss/wear along the perimeter of the lid.
A fantastic piece of vintage German tobacciana and hunting décor, ideal for a cigar collection, hunting lodge, cabin, gentleman’s study, desk or stag/deer collection.
