Vintage 1928 L.A. Huffman Postcard Jerk-Line Twelve Freight Road Yellowstone Western
Condition: Good vintage condition, minor wear from age, some light corner and edge wear visible. Crease in upper right of card. Handwritten message and postmark on the back.
Features a historic color illustration titled “Jerk-line twelve” on the Old Freight Road Before the Railroad Came, created by L.A. Huffman.
Front image depicts 12-horse or oxen freight team with covered wagons on the old Yellowstone trail, classic western pioneer subject matter.
Postmarked 1928, features a green 1 cent Benjamin Franklin stamp and legible script to address in Oregon.
Back text gives historical context: "Ahead of the Northern Pacific – For the pioneers, ox-teams 'freighted' merchandise, mining machinery, farm implements...through the Northwest just a half century ago. Along these laborious trails today, railroads and gravel highways make quick and easy transportation. This photograph on the Yellowstone was taken on the Northern Pacific right-of-way just 50 years ago."
Handwritten message reads: "Will be in town in a few minutes. Had a good time on the way, only a little snow out, not too cold. Per, F. A."
