B. Elizabeth Barriere (June 3, 1933 – July 26, 2013) was an American folk and regional artist known for her scenic depictions of New England landscapes, architecture, and coastal life. Based primarily out of Norwich, Connecticut, her work captures the traditional, rustic charm of the Northeast region.

Biography & Background

* Early Life: Born Bernice Elizabeth Fitch in Norwich, CT. She graduated from the Norwich Free Academy in 1951 and went on to study fashion design at the Jackson von Ladeau School of Fashion in Boston.

* Career Shift: After spending several years working as an accountant for an architectural firm in Los Angeles, she and her family returned to Connecticut by sailboat via the Panama Canal in 1975. Following this journey, she dedicated more than thirty years to a full-time art career.

Artistic Style & Techniques

* Hand-Tinted Prints: A major portion of her portfolio consists of detailed, hand-drawn pen and ink sketches. She reproduced these drawings as prints and individually colorized each piece by hand using watered-down acrylic washes. This technique gave the finished prints the delicate, translucent look of a hand-tinted etching or watercolor.
