Vintage 1946 Owens-Illinois Art Deco Clear Glass Refrigerator Space-Saver Bottle
For sale is an authentic, beautifully preserved piece of mid-century kitchen history! This is a classic 6-inch flat circular "coin flask" style refrigerator water bottle / juice carafe manufactured by the Owens-Illinois Glass Company.
Produced right after WWII in 1946, these space-saver bottles were explicitly designed to slide into the narrow door compartments of vintage refrigerators. The outer sides are accented with a series of bold, horizontal Art Deco ridges that provide an excellent, non-slip grip when handling the chilled glass.
The textured base is clearly embossed with the historic Owens-Illinois "Diamond, Oval, and I" trademark logo. It is flanked by the plant code "7" (Alton, Illinois—once the largest bottle factory in the world) to the left, a single-digit date code "6" for 1946 to the right, and mold/cavity number "6" stamped at the bottom.
