Great little local advertising piece from South Alabama - a metal desk flip calendar from JACKSON LUMBER CO. double sided with a cool little medallion featuring their logo including the DIXIE FLAG in the center of it. The calendar is about 3.5" tall and the medallion is less than 1.5" across. The base is about 3.65" across.
This company lasted from somewhere around 1900 through about 1940. It was quite large in its heydays - actually one of the largest mills in the US in its prime. It's trademark item was the DIXIE RIFT FLOORING and it was in many large and important buildings along the East Coast (Grand Central Station/Library of Congress). Not many advertising pieces left around from here.
If you are not aware, you flip this over each day and a new # drops down. It works pretty good. Every now and then one will hang up, but you just have to thump it. Maybe 3 have a lot of paint loss worn off and a few more with some, but overall most of them still look great! The little dials at the bottom to change the month and days also work.
Incredible little piece for a local collector from South Alabama!
