The U.S. M1903 brass stripper clip is a World War I–era component designed for the Springfield M1903 rifle chambered in .30-06 Springfield. Constructed from brass, this early production clip predates the later steel versions introduced during World War II. The clip features a spring-loaded two-part design that holds five cartridges and facilitates rapid loading into the rifle’s internal magazine. Both ends of the spring retain the small tabs used to secure cartridges in place, a detail often lost on surviving examples due to the thinness of the material.
The brass construction reflects early U.S. military manufacturing practices before wartime material conservation led to the adoption of steel clips. Each clip was intended for single use, though many were retained as collectible artifacts. The tabs at each end of the spring are intact, distinguishing this piece from others that typically exhibit broken or missing tabs. The clip’s form and finish correspond to the World War I production period associated with the Springfield M1903 system.
