US Army 45th Infantry Division 158th Field Artillery Battalion DUI Pin Back-N. S. Meyer New York
This hard-to-find 158th FA Bn pin back DUI comes from my father\'s military collection and a smoke free home. The DUI shield feathers and edge have a copper appearance. The white enamel has some crazing near the star. On the back of the DUI, the right half of the engraved hallmark is visible.......MEYER and YORK. The outline of the hallmark shield is also visible. The left half of the hallmark is worn away, as well as the center of the shield. I have researched hallmarks of Meyer of New York. It appears that at one time the hallmark probably read N.S. MEYER NEW YORK and the shield had an engraved cross in the center. According to records, this DUI would have been produced in the early 1930s. However, I have also read that screw backs were part of DUIs during this period of time, not pin backs. Therefore, perhaps this DUI was produced during the first half of the 1940s.
